I offer CBT, DBT, IFS and Boundary work for:

Work Burnout, Academic Burnout, Caregiver Burnout, Burnout in Educators & Health Professionals, Family and Relationship Stress Burnout.

Are you tired all the time no matter how much you sleep?

Do you feel like it’s hard to think clearly, see constructive solutions to your problems and find yourself experiencing regular brain fog?

Does it feel hard to experience joy or positive mood states even in moments that could otherwise seem enjoyable?

The above are symptoms of burnout - a Depression and Fatigue related symptom state cHaracterized by both physical and cognitive exhaustion + Feelings of Hopelessness

I know burnout can be one of the most physically painful and frustrating mental and physical health conditions to find yourself struggling with. Whether it’s the result of having a stressful or responsibility heavy job, having taken on too much for too long without realizing it or knowing how to undo this, having unprocessed trauma that shows up as recurrent difficult to manage triggers that lead to exhaustion, having had recurrent life stress that you haven’t been able to take a break from, or being too many things to too many people - I work with burnout from am emotional activation safetying, internal boundary/self expectation, and family and life systems perspective.

I am well versed working at the intersections of Perfectionism & Burnout, High achievement & Burnout, ADHD & Burnout, Anxiety & Burnout, Hyper-independence/Over functioning & Burnout, Caregiver Burnout, Life stress, trauma & Burnout, Codependency & Burnout and will help discern your support needs where depression and burnout symptomology may overlap.

I take clients through life role/responsibility and self expectation inventory when it comes to burnout counselling with a focus on understanding what is causing your burnout and where we can recoup more effective rest, energy supportive boundaries and depletion reversing experiences for you. Burnout can be impacted both by internal and external boundary setting difficulties, internal and external role expectations and pressures, chronic emotional dysregulation and unresolved trauma, but almost always involves some form of ongoing over-functioning and inadequate rest or need meeting.

My approach to counselling for burnout is supportive, non-blaming, and achievement/goal preserving where possible. We will focus on helping you the understand blocks in your experience of rest and boundary setting that are leading to ongoing depletion. I am a big advocate that ‘safe or adequate rest,’ which for burnout is usually not just physical rest, but cognitive and emotional rest that you’ve not had enough of for some time, can be a systems issue and hard to find safe buy in for in our ever expensive world. I am experienced at helping find collaboration between your self expectations and rest and reset needs, and making sense of where boundary setting is not feeling acceptable or safe and leading to over-functioning.

We will make sense of where your energy is going or being taken by (pressure, perfectionism, taking responsibility for others safety or emotions, rumination and anxiety - yes this takes up energy - and the unspoken fears behind what would happen if we said no or took breaks from our responsibilities), and find approachable ways to allow you to either engage with your responsibilities in less straining/energy costing ways, establish better pacing and regulate overwhelm before it leads to shut down.

My burnout counselling approach often involves making sense of the link between conditional self worth and over functioning, as well as understanding blocks to receiving support or care from others (and sometimes yourself) + external resource connecting.

Whether your burnout is over-functioning to collapse patterned, cumulative trauma/stress, work responsibility or caregiver burnout related, I understand this experience deeply and have helped many stuck humans find a clearer path to recovery and prevention of future depletion.
